For more than 20 years New Horizons Un-Limited has been active in partnering with various organizations to build accessible cabins in the campgrounds in the Wisconsin State Parks.
NHU advocates for this valuable outdoor respite for Wisconsin citizens and their families facing the challenge of disability.
This project has been a testament to the generosity of the people of Wisconsin who have given of their time and talents to build seven accessible cabins across the state. All of the cabins are reserved and used to capacity during the camping season offering much needed respite for families.
This year the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park have been approved by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to build an accessible cabin in the park’s campground. Harrington Beach State Park Accessible Cabin will be the 8 th accessible cabin in Wisconsin.
Harrington Beach is located only 30 miles north of Milwaukee, boasts a beautiful long sand beach lakefront, a quarry lake for fishing with an accessible hiking path and an exceptional prairie and woodland habitat for birds and wildlife.
New Horizons Un-Limited has offered to promote the accessibility of the cabin. Miller Engineering ITG Inc and Strass-Maguire and Associates, Inc. architects will once again donate the design of the cabin.
To move forward the Friends Group of Harrington Beach State Park will promote their cabin during a free admission to the park day with a Pancake Breakfast June 3 rd, 2012. Please join us as we enjoy breakfast at the visitors center in the park from 9am - noon. For more information, see the enclosed flyer.
