Follow NHU - A Story of Being Human – A Narrative on Life

We at NHU believe that there is more to a person than his/her disability. Disability doesn’t have to be, and shouldn’t be, the definitive narrative on one’s life, but rather woven into the unique and intricate fabric of everyday life.

The truth is many people with disabilities lead full, enriching lives, filled with both the complexities and the joys of everyday living. It is true that many people with disabilities face unique obstacles, but again, just as your obstacles do not define you, their obstacles do not define them.

This spring we will be launching a new storytelling project aimed at creating a narrative on living with a disability. Rather than focus on the disability itself, we will simply tell a story that captures our subjects’ unique personalities, their hopes, their frustrations…their everyday lives. Sometimes disability may be a significant portion of a story, other times it won’t.

Ultimately, through both honest photos and conversations, we hope to build a narrative that will speak to the similarities that we all share in our humanity. As we share their stories we hope that our viewers will see people with disabilities for who they are, as human beings, not simply what their disability may imply.

We believe that stories are the most powerful change agents. Through these stories, we want to change the way society views and interacts with people with disabilities. We want people with and without disabilities, alike to find a connection with one another.

In the coming months, we will be documenting and sharing the unique stories of both individuals and families whose lives have been touched by disability.
