We invite you to volunteer your time and talents in support of your disability community. We are seeking volunteers locally from the Greater Milwaukee area.
Volunteer Position Available:
NHU Information Technology Volunteer Network: Computer Refurbisher
Start Date: To be determined
Hours: Flexible during office hours.
Qualifications and Experiences required: Volunteers should have exceptional knowledge of the inner workings of a computer, experience with computer testing, troubleshooting and the removal and installation of hardware and software. Be able to lift 15 lb.
Location: Volunteers should be located in the Greater Milwaukee Area. Volunteers will work at our offices during office hours.
About the NHU Information Technology Volunteer Network:
Are you technology saavy? Do you have a passion for computers?
If so, we need your assistance. We are currently seeking Information Technology volunteers to assist us with our Access Technology Computer Redistribution Program.
Via our program, we accept donations of used computers and refurbish them for use by people with disabilities in their home and community training programs. We are looking for technology savvy volunteers to test and install hardware, clean hard drives of existing data, and reinstall operating systems and software, among other tasks. Volunteers may also be asked to assist our computer recipients via our IT Helpdesk.
Computer Refurbisher tasks may include the following:
- Performing diagnostic tests of hardware and computer components.
- Installing and/or replacing needed hardware and software.
- Assisting with the training of individuals on computer set-up and maintenance.
- Troubleshooting of technical problems encountered by computer recipients via NHU's IT Helpdesk.
More about NHU's Information Technology Helpdesk
NHU's IT Help Desk will be made available to individual technology recipients. Recipients shall be guaranteed contact from IT Help Desk within 48 business hours of initial contact.
IT Helpdesk Volunteers will:
- Contact computer recipient within 48 hours of initial contact to either resolve the issue via phone or arrange the pick up or drop off of affected equipment for troubleshooting on-site at NHU.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting of returned equipment.
- Track and document troubleshooting activities for each recipient.
Volunteers are very much appreciated for their services whether it is one-time or long term and receive recognition for their accomplishment.
