Cindy, Alabama, USA"Thank you for responding so quickly [to my request for resources]. I’ve done research all day and have gotten nowhere. It is so frustrating. Thank you so much for your help with this. We are desperate."
Kathy, USA
"I can't tell you how helpful you have been…You are the only [organization] that has taken the time to try to help, and I thank you for that."
Anonymous, USA
"Thank you so much for the reply to me. I feel that it is really great to answer me individually and talk about my problems and to give me suggestions. I was really very amazed when you replied and thank you for the useful information."
Computer Literacy and Access Participants
Robert: It's About Reducing Isolation
"The computer has helped me feel less confined to my own problems. It has helped me interact more with my peers and I am reaching out to others."
Geraldine: Homebound, taking on-line classes
"Before I received my computer, I was pretty homebound. Having the computer has given me greater confidence. I am working on-line to get my B.S. in Ministry Leadership and my computer allows me to assist the elderly in a local home assistance program, to teach youth and to help with music for the choir at my local church. I would not be where I am today without the computer equipment and support of New Horizons Un-Limited who have offered courteous and professional help."
Eric: It's About Facing Life with Confidence
"Thank you for the program you provide for the community. The computer you provided me has benefited me in various ways. I have been able to pay bills online. I've been able to search web sites for information and also apply for jobs. This has opened up a new world which previously I was not able to do. I am no longer intimidated and afraid to use the computer. I also have been learning how to operate different programs."
Cory: It's About Opening a World of Opportunity
"From being in a position of ignorance by not even knowing how to turn on a computer, to learning how to use it as I do now, has been a great gift! The computer can open up so many new worlds."
Ginger: "To get me back to the land of the living."
"With my disability, I have had an increasingly difficult time in writing due to the tremors. Your technology program has given me the opportunity to be able to succeed in school and all of my volunteer programs. It is people like you and similar programs that make this world a better place. Thank you so much for the opportunity to succeed in going on with my life!"
Diane: Gaining confidence in Computer skills for employment
The gift of the laptop helped me find out that I could, in fact, work with accommodations. My current plan is to find a permanent, part-time job as a grant writer where I can continue to do some work from home because of my health. It has and will play a key role in helping me become more financially independent. Thank you!
Louise: Continuing education!
"I want to thank you for the New Horizon Un-Limited refurbished computer program. This program has been an asset to me. The computer has helped me become fluent in my computer skills and continue my educational studies. Before coming to your program, I was computer illiterate. Since I have had my computer, I took a college computer course that has helped me become advanced in my knowledge about the computer and software. I have since finished my associate degree and working on the completion of my bachelor’s in Social Work. Without the computer I could not have gotten this far. Thank you for this program! It has truly been a help to me."
Volunteering and Healing
Lisa: Opening a Path for Healing
"I am very thankful for the computer program. It has been useful to me.
I am an advocate for Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault. As a volunteer I am asked to speak at Events. My computer allows me to do outlines, activities, flyers and invitations.
Also my computer allows me to do research, not only secular, but also spiritually.
I appreciate your generosity and kindness. Please know that my ability to have this computer has made a positive difference in my life. Thank You."
Accessible Cabin Visitors
Julie: Mother of Steph
"We find this opportunity to be here an honor and privilege. Stephanie is unable to write this as she is a quadriplegic with no use of her legs and limited use of [her] arms. Steph wants everyone to know that she was able to turn on the [water] faucets by herself for the first time. What a thrill. What a blessing that so many good people worked so hard for something that they probably will not use themselves."
Kathy: Mother of Ryan
"This was the first mini retreat we've taken since [my son] Ryan's car accident in 2006. Everything worked out better than we thought it would. We even saw a few fawns, raccoons and enjoyed the critters on the [accessible] boardwalk. It was a great feeling to know that we can go somewhere and not have it all be difficult and uncomfortable. This was a great place to come to- we'll be back!"
