New website encourages disability beneficiaries to Choose Work

The Social Security Administration has developed a new website dedicated to their Ticket to Work Program, an extraordinary, yet largely underutilized program for individuals with disabilities.

The Ticket to Work program provides a voucher that eligible individuals with disabilities can use to pay for employment-related services, such as skills training, job placement services and more.

If you are currently receiving Social Security Disability Benefits, and are interested in going to work, check out the Choose Work website at www.choosework.net.

You can also contact Maximus, the program administrator toll-free at 1-866-968-7842.

“Extra Help” available to Medicare beneficiaries with disabilities

Under a new law, more Medicare beneficiaries could qualify for Extra Help with their Medicare prescription drug plan costs.

This new law no longer counts the assistance beneficiaries receive from others to pay for household expenses, such as food, rent, mortgage or utilities, as income.

Those who qualify for Extra Help could save an estimated $3,900 per year. To learn if you qualify and to complete an application online, visit
www.socialsecurity.gov/prescriptionhelp.

You can also contact the Social Security Administration toll-free at 1-800-772-1213.

Riveting talks by remarkable people ~ Free to the world

TED is a website that features videos of talks given by individuals, famous or otherwise, that have unique life experiences and genuine insight to share.

Topics are as varied as the speakers themselves. But, no matter which talk you listen in on, you are sure to walk away feeling a little inspired.

A recent talk given by Temple Grandin, a woman diagnosed with Autism as a child, discussed “how her mind works -- sharing her ability to "think in pictures," which helps her solve problems that neurotypical brains might miss. She makes the case that the world needs people on the autism spectrum: visual thinkers, pattern thinkers, verbal thinkers, and all kinds of smart geeky kids.”

No matter if you are looking for an inspiring, funny, courageous, persuasive, or just plain informative talk, TED will have something to fit the bill.

Check out TED online, by visiting
www.ted.com.

Note: Your computer will need Adobe Flash Player to view the video clips. You will be prompted to download Flash, if required.
