This month as we advocate to make more places accessible to all people
 we honor Jim Schendel.

This June construction begins on the 8th Accessible Cabin for the Wisconsin State Parks.

The cabin will be built in memory and honor of Jim Schendel, an active member
of Wisconsin's disability community (and former computer training volunteer of NHU) who unexpectedly passed away in January 2008.

Jim had a contagious "Can do" spirit and he encouraged many people with disabilities.
He was a member of the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park and advocated for the park's accessible trails and
fishing piers.

Jim's family, the Friends Group, New Horizons Un-Limited with Miller Engineering ITG Inc., Strass Maguire Associates and Richard Koenig have worked to design this next cabin.  We are excited to see Jim's dream become reality.

Jim's family feel that Jim can best be described with the following George Bernard Shaw quote,
"Other people see things and say "Why?...But I dream things that never were... and I say, "Why not?"

JFK remarked on Shaw's quote,   "The problems of the world cannot possibly be solved by skeptics or cynics, whose horizons are limited by the obvious realities.  We need men who can dream things that never were, and ask why not."
