The 45 companies that were identified as standing out for their leadership in areas specific to disability employment and inclusion had, on average over the four-year period, 28 percent higher revenue, double the net income and 30 percent higher economic profit margins than their peers. Broadscope Disability Services formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Southeastern Wisconsin under Business Advisory Council offers a list of area businesses that are committed to the hiring of people with diverse abilities. UCP offers an Employment Services (ES) program that assists individuals with developmental disabilities in obtaining employment in order to achieve independent lives.Friendship Restaurant and Bakery is a project of The Friendship Circle of Wisconsin, a division of Lubavitch of Wisconsin. This program is tailored for independent adults with special needs who do not require one-on-one assistance with a staff member or volunteer. Three times a week, adults eighteen and older with special needs have the opportunity to learn the important skills needed to operate a bakery. From mixing ingredients, decorating desserts, to packaging finished products and delivering the delicious pastries and challah to your door, our students are involved in it all. Friendship Bakery was started to address a vocational education gap that occurs for high school graduates with disabilities. Many of these graduates have limited employment options consisting of a narrow range of tasks or community participation programs. Friendship Bakery provides an outstanding alternative. Participants receive the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to a business in a challenging, safe, supervised environment. Most importantly, it builds independence and self-esteem giving each individual a sense of purpose and ownership for their work, while also giving these trainees the opportunity to earn from sales.
