End of Year Giving, Planned Giving
TweetThank you for your interest in contributing to New Horizons Un-Limited!
NHU can only continue to provide our many services including information and referral with your support!!!
*Tax deductible gifts to a charity may or may not be the right course for your tax situation!
Tax deductions noted below may not apply if you do not itemize deductions - or - your total tax deductions are not more than this year's standard deduction so you choose to take your standard deduction.
This year if you take the standard deduction, you can take up to $300 in tax deduction for up to the same amount in charitable deductions.
Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. Obtain the services of a competent legal, tax or financial planning professional for your individual specific legal or tax advice!
Did you know that the end of year giving can meet your needs while helping to support members of our community with disabilities?
IF YOU WISH TO . . . . .
- Give back to your community.
- *Increase your income tax deduction.
- *Reduce your income tax.
- *Reduce the taxes due from the capital gain of investments or the sale of unneeded life insurance.
- Give back to your community through your will or through a trust while retaining income from the gift for life.
Give an End of Year Gift to: NEW HORIZONS UN-LIMITED
Your gift will ensure that members of our community with disabilities are given access to the opportunities that will improve their lives!!!
Please note - for 2021 you may want to choose to take your standard deduction rather than itemize deductions.
This year if you take the standard deduction, you can take up to $300 for single filers, $600 for married filing jointly in tax deduction for up to the same amount in charitable deductions, however this year claiming the deduction as part of the standard deduction for 2021 may not be quite as beneficial tax-wise for some taxpayers as was the deduction for 2020. This is because on 2020 returns the cash contributions, up to $300, are deducted in computing adjusted gross income, while on 2021 returns, the deduction will be taken after the AGI is figured. This distinction matters because many credits and other tax benefits are limited by the AGI amount.
- Give Back to Your Community.
Please take a moment to review our NHU Donation Wish List. Listed are just a few ways in which you can ensure that our community members with disabilities are given access to the information, tools and opportunities that will allow them to lead a fuller life. - Give Gifts of Cash.
Do you wish to increase your income tax deduction to reduce your annual income tax? Donate a cash gift to NHU by December 31, of this calendar year (Your check must be dated and received or postmarked by the deadline) to qualify for an annual charitable income tax deduction. The full amount of your gift qualifies for an annual charitable income tax deduction generally limited up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for 2021. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. - To Make a Financial Contribution - Donate Now!
- Use the Itemized Income Tax Deduction
Do you wish to itemize your income tax deductions, but only have enough for the standard deduction limit? (For 2021, $25,100 for married filing jointly and $12,550 for singles.) An extra year-end gift or accelerating future contributions for the coming year can reach your goal of itemization. With the standard deductions, you may wish to make a larger gift in one year. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. - Avoid Tax on an Investment of Increased Value
Do you wish to avoid the capital gain of assets that have increased in value such as stocks, bonds, real estate or mutual funds? Take a charitable income tax deduction by donating investment property and by giving the investment directly to New Horizons Un-Limited, there will be no capital gain tax to diminish the value of the gift. NHU receives more, while it costs you less. Property must have been owned for at least one year and must be less than 30% of your adjusted gross income. If the gifts are larger, they may qualify for a carry-forward amount for the following year. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. - Give Unneeded Life Insurance
Do you wish to receive a charitable income tax deduction for all or a portion of an old life insurance policy that is no longer needed, or you need to cash in the insurance and are interested in reducing the taxes due from the sale? Give the unneeded policy to New Horizons Un-Limited and receive a charitable income tax deduction, or cash in the policy and give a lesser portion or name NHU beneficiary. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your personal tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. - Planned Giving
Do you wish to include New Horizons Un-Limited in your estate planning? Planned gifts include gifts through your will such as cash or property gifts, charitable gift annuities for giving highly appreciated property for income tax deduction based on fair market value, and charitable remainder trusts which allow one to give while retaining income for life. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional. - Reduce Estate Taxes
Many estates must still pay estate tax or income tax. You can give a gift per year to New Horizons Un-Limited to offset the estate tax. Through a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust you can make a gift to a charity before you are gone and may receive income that exceeds what you are earning now. After age 70-1/2 years you can receive life income up to a certain percentage of the gift amount from an annuity. Some of this may be tax-free offering another percentage of the gift amount. Deductions from donations to charity depend on your tax deduction circumstances so be sure to plan and consult with your tax professional.
