Life Planning: Transition: For Employers: Hire/Mentor Youth with Disabilities

New Sign Disability Mentoring Day, held the third Wednesday in October, promotes career development through hands-on programs, job shadowing, and ongoing mentoring of youth with disabilities. If your company would like to participate in Disability Mentoring Day activities, contact the American Association of Persons with Disabilities to connect with your local coordinator, via phone, 800-840-8844 (V/TTY) or via email, dmd@aapd.com.

New Sign US Business Leadership Network via its Tower Initiative, provides employers with the tools they need to effectively hire youth with disabilities. More specifically, they have developed three toolkits that provide different avenues for engaging with students with disabilities through high quality internship and mentoring programs, as well as, student advisory councils. Each toolkit can be downloaded below:

  • Guide to Business Branded Internships
  • Guide to Business Branded Mentoring
  • Guide To Creating Student Advisory Councils
