Guide to Alternative Funding in Lieu of Proposed Medicaid Budget Cuts
There has been increasing talk from elected officials about proposed cuts to essential programs, particularly Medicaid. While the present administration has stated that Medicaid "will not be touched," the nature of politics dictates that things can and do change. The fact remains that Medicaid is still on the table, aimed at identifying fraud, waste, and abuse as justification for the proposed cuts. However, according to Edwin Park, a professor of public policy at Georgetown University, the argument regarding fraud is misleading. The budget plan instructs the Energy and Commerce Committee to identify at least $800 billion in mandatory cuts over ten years, with Medicaid being a target to achieve these budget reductions.
Fortunately, private non-profit organizations exist to provide some encouragement and hope for People with Disabilities. While these organizations were not meant to replace Medicaid services, they can be helpful and beneficial in providing grants to People with Disabilities.
