National Guardianship Association, Inc. has developed a set of principles and standards concerning guardianship to be used on a national scope. Their informative website offers a wealth of information to family guardians covering such topics as the rights of an individual under guardianship, informed consent, and guardianship & developmentally disabled individuals, among others. They also offer an annual membership to family guardians which provides a quarterly newsletter, reduced fees for an annual conference, membership on a list-serve where guardianship issues are discussed, and an ethics hot-line through which members can discuss issues with professionals. Washington State Department of Social and Health Services: Guardianship Basics - Frequently Asked Questions is a guide to guardianship for adult children with disabilities. The format answers some basic questions such as What is Guardianship?, When is guardianship warranted?, as well as more specific questions such as How are gaurdianships of Native American clients different? Guardianship is governed by each state and this guide is geared toward and links to the Washington state statutes governing guardianship.
