From the Past President of the AAIDD (American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities,
You may have already reached out to help the rescue and recovery efforts from all over the country to assist multiple thousands of people and families. Thank you! The level of response by other Texans, the Cajun Navy from Louisiana, and so many more has been amazing.
The Board of Directors would like to encourage all AAIDD members to help in ways which they feel appropriate. If you are interested in supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families, The Arc of Texas- in collaboration with an inter-agency coalition in the Houston area-has set up the following website: www.thearcoftexas.org/harvey.
This is also an excellent time for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to join in Harvey responses in their own communities around the country. They may want to know how to help as well. As has been evident, these are times that bring communities together.
Let's hope that AAIDD President Elect  doesn't have to write the same kind of letter following Irma. But for now, from Texas, thank you.
