Adaptive Clothing
« on: September 21, 2016, 07:59:10 AM »
Share a resource or idea for adapting clothing for everyday living.

Adaptive Clothing  is designed for people with disabilities, who may experience difficulty dressing themselves due to an inability to manipulate closures, such as buttons and zippers, or due to a lack of a full range of motion required for self-dressing. Adaptive clothing may offer rear-closure designs so that an individual can be dressed more easily by a carer  or alternatives to buttons and zippers.  Resources for dressing accessories, aids or devices that may assist the self-dresser to manipulate closures or to dress independently.  Special needs clothing can be difficult to find to fit the needs of the individual, so information on how to adapt ready-made garments through dressmaker instructions would be great or you may wish to seek the services of a dressmaker/tailor.

Re: Adaptive Clothing - Professional Fit Clothing

Recently we have heard from Tom Pirruccello, part owner of a company called Professional Fit Clothing   They provide clothing and accessories that are very helpful to individuals with special needs.   You can see them pictured at www.professionalfit.com or you can contact them and they can send you  a free catalog.  They specialize in full elastic waist pants, clothing protectors, Capes for those in a chair and adapting items to special needs.  1-800-422-2348 or sales@professionalfit.com.  Has anyone tried this clothing?  The prices seem fairly reasonable.
