Summer Health Tips
« on: June 23, 2015, 10:12:42 AM »
Do not expect to take part in a summer marathon if you haven't paid your exercise dues.  No matter your age, you can still get moving, exercise so you can  improve your ability to do everyday things, improve your strength and health.  Exercise helps to improve balance, reduce feelings of depression and improve your brain efforts too.

Summer gardening can suddenly use muscles that you have neglected during the rest of the year.  Be careful to protect your back to prevent back pain, stretch before exercise, do not lift objects that are too heavy, do not twist when lifting and use your stomach and legs to lift rather than your back.  If you sit often, try to change to standing position often during the day.

Going outdoors is a must for summer fun,  but be sure to protect your skin from the sun and the risk of skin cancer.  UVB rays cause sunburn, UVA rays penetrate deeper and cause premature aging, both can cause cancer.  Get a sunscreen labeled "Broad Spectrum with an Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of at least 15.   Work or play in the shade, wear protective clothing, a hat and sunglasses are good suggestions too.
