August 2014 - "Laughter is the best medicine"

Do you find that sometimes with disability comes an overworked mind and body?

When life is at a frenetic pace and you cannot keep up, stress will seem to overwhelm you.

Whether you are a person with a disability or a caregiver, how do you cope with stress?

One family has shared that they try to find the humor in the worst situations and try to laugh together.

In the old "I Love Lucy" television comedy, situations could get out of control for the character Lucy and there seemed no way back, yet somehow through the humor she made out better at the end, so one of our families actually pretends their situation is like a television comedy so they can find the humor, allowing them to see their situations in a more realistic, less threatening perspective which creates a distance, that can help them from becoming overwhelmed.

Before going to bed at night relieve stress by watching a comedy show or curl up with your favorite cartoon book!
