If you live in Arizona here is an answer from the Centers for Independent Living on finding a place to live.

Yes. If you need housing, but cannot afford market rate rents, you can contact your local housing authority. The housing authority can describe to you various housing programs for low-income individuals and persons with disabilities. There are lengthy wait lists to enter many of these programs but it is strongly recommended that you apply, as spots in each program do open up periodically. To contact the housing authority in your Arizona area, refer to the list below:

Chandler - (480) 782-3200
Glendale - (623) 930-2198 / (623) 930-2180
Maricopa County - 256-9651
Mesa - (480) 644-3535
Peoria - (623) 773-7140
Phoenix - 534-2142
Tempe - (480) 350-8950

I was just turned sown for SSDI, I am appling it and have contacted a lawyer. I was told that if you are disabiled that you are able to get Section 8 faster, because  you are low income. I just got an email and they tell me that Section 8 is closed because there is a 5 yr waiting list. I can barly pay my bills and rent now. It does not seem like there is much help out there for a signel White Female trying to make it on her own, I have no fmily to help me.

My complex takes section 8 and I was told all I had to do is get the paperwork for the office and I would have the lower rent. Not sure how that works but that is what my manager told me.

I am stressing out. and it is not a good feeling at all.

Does anyone know of affordable housing in NYC.  A community member has sent the following message to NHU.

"I cannot find affordable housing in NYC.  I am very depressed. "
