2014 - February - Volunteer Spotlight: Scott Pedaled for a Purpose!

    Scott by his bike

Scott has been a long time volunteer with New Horizons Un-Limited, helping out in our Computer Refurbishing Program. Full of ambition and generosity, Scott approached NHU with a new idea. An avid bike rider, Scott wanted to push himself further than he ever had before - 1000 miles in a single riding season (April - November). What's more, he wanted to collect pledges on behalf of NHU for every mile he trekked!

Thus began Scott's personal fundraising campaign, Pedaling for a Purpose.

We were thrilled to be chosen as the first beneficiary of Scott's ambitious personal journey. Despite a few riding injuries and an unseasonably chilly and sleety fall, Scott managed to log nearly the entire 1000 miles and collect more than $1100 in pledges - 100 percent of which supported NHU's programs. Scott is an inspiration and a wonderful example of how one person truly can make a difference.

Thank you, Scott, for valuing our work and for investing in the futures of our community members with disabilities. You are a true champion!

    February - 2014 - Volunteer Appreciation

We would specially like to thank the following people for their continued support of NHU programs and the computer recipients who volunteered this year.

2013 - December - DHS Confirms Providers Cannot Collect Insurance Copays From Children Eligible for Medicaid from Disability Rights Wisconsin

At the urging of Disability Rights Wisconsin, the Department of Health Services has issued a letter clarifying that providers cannot collect insurance copays from the families of Medicaid eligible children for services that are covered by both Medicaid and the family’s insurance. The issue arises most often for families who have private health insurance which covers autism services and whose child is also enrolled in the Children’s Long Term Support (CLTS) Medicaid Waiver program.
